We do the Fence-A-Thon once a year and 100% of the money raised goes towards supporting the kids. From buying equipment for the kids who can’t afford it, to helping to pay for tournament fees so kids can have a chance, and for some, helping to subsidize the cost of travel to these tournaments. Moreover, Fencing Forward goes beyond just fencing, we provide opportunities for fencing clubs and sport organizations with the our Community Grant Program and to help student fencers with each step they take inside and outside of fencing The En Garde Merit Scholarship.

The sport of fencing carries great benefits for the growth of young children. Fencers competes both as a team and as an individual. In doing so, the fencers are challenged and develop both physically as well as mentally. Unfortunately, being a unique Olympic sport, many kids don’t have the access or the financial means to this opportunity. We want to change this.

It is our hope that through fencing, the kids can develop skills to help better themselves, and in turn, to help better our communities!

Pledge for Pools Round

The first round in fencing is Pool. It’s the typical round robin.

Each pool has between 5-7 fencers
Each bout is 3 minutes or whoever gets to 5 touches first

V = Victories
M = Bouts
TS = Touches Scored
TR = Touches Received
Ind = Indicator (Ind=TS-TR)

V and Ind are used to seed the fencers in the next round of fencing – Direct Elimination

Pledge for Direct Elimination round

The Direct Elimination round. Fencers are seeded according to their Pool results.

Each Direct Elimination has 3 period of fencing.
Each period is 3 minutes
First to 15 touches win, or highest number of touches when time runs out
A tie at the end of the 3 period goes into a Priority bout.
Priority is randomly assigned to a fencer
Priority bout last 1 minute.
Fencer who score the touch during priority wins, or if after 1 minute, there is no touch, then the fencer with assigned priority wins
